Thailand’s state-owned telecoms company, CAT Telecom Public Company, has upgraded the AV systems at its Bangkok Network Operations Center (NOC). This included the replacement of a decade-old videowall with an 8x7 array of 55-inch, thin bezel LCD monitors that receive HDMI, DVI, and VGA sources, designed and installed by Siam Alliance with Extron video processing and control systems.

‘The high resolution images provided by the new videowall system allow CAT’s operators to clearly display detailed information, such as network maps, that were nearly unreadable with the old system,’ said Chukiat Marutharalerd from Siam Alliance. ‘The much-improved readability has resulted in a noticeable boost to NOC operator productivity.’

An Extron Quantum Elite HDCP-compliant, scalable videowall processing receives the signals from HDMI, DVI and VGA sources via XTP scaling receivers. Its video/graphics bus scales the content to preserve image quality at full frame rates. As the NOC operates continuously, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, the Quantum Elite processor offers a failsafe solution with redundant hot swappable power supplies and fans, as well as solid state storage, which reduces risk of hard drive failure.

Also installed at the NOC is an Extron TLP Pro 725T 7-inch TouchLink Pro touchpanel displaying preconfigured window presets recalled using a customised user interface that communicates with the Quantum control PC via an IPCP Pro 250 IP link control processor. Control is also offered from a iPad connected over WiFi using Extron’s LinkLicense system. The customised user interface was created using Extron’s free GUI Designer software.

In addition, 12 XTP two-input wall plate transmitters, located at operator workstations, accept HDMI or VGA from PCs and other sources. They transmit the signals up to 100m over a twisted pair cable to XTP scaling receivers that feed the Quantum Elite inputs. The Quantum Elite has nine outputs, expanded by DA HD 4K Series distribution amplifiers that supply video via 56 HDMI cables to the 8x7 LCD displays in the videowall.
