AMS Neve launches 8424 for hybrid workflows
AMS Neve has introduced the Neve 8424 console, delivering Neve 80 series voltage mixing sound with four groups and 24 channel faders. The small format Neve 8424 is aimed at the modern hybrid studio, combining in-the-box workflow speed with analogue sound quality. Following on from the Genesys Black console, the British manufacturer has created a centralised platform with the connectivity to link linear analogue processing to the digital world.
“Modern small studio hybrid setups often lack analogue metering, signal routing, talkback and accurate control room monitoring options: key features that only large format studio consoles deliver,” said AMS Neve distribution manager, David Walton. “Our engineers wanted to put these features back into the heart of the 8424 console, giving artists, producers and engineers the professional tools required to work faster, smarter and more
effectively.”
The 8424’s dual-input channel strip allows switching between recording and mixing inputs without additional patching. Input connectivity is provided by 24 line-level inputs, dual 1073 preamps and dual instrument DI channels. Performers can record directly from the control room via the dual cue mix system with three-way talkback/return talkback capability and dual headphone amplifiers.
The analogue mixing platform has 24 DAW returns across 24 channel faders, while for larger DAW sessions, a 48-mix mode allows a total of 48 mono inputs with individual level and pan controls to be mixed through the 8424’s Marinair transformer-coupled stereo mix bus. The 8424’s mono and stereo aux busses can connect to outboard FX units and route them back into the console’s two dedicated stereo reverb returns. Four mono groups with 2-band shelving EQ, inserts and direct outs promote stem mixing, and the 8424 stereo mix bus provides true voltage mixing into Marinair transformers. Other features include stereo insert, 2-bandshelving EQ and stereo width control.
Each channel, group and stereo mix bus comes with its own switchable insert point, while dual 500 series slots can customise the signal chain and build a modular hybrid recording system by connecting through the 8424 console. An on-board Recall system allows all settings, faders and pot positions to be saved, loaded and recalled on a session-by-session basis.
“In any configuration, the 8424 console offers an excellent studio control surface with comprehensive monitoring and signal routing capabilities,” added Walton. “This eliminates the typical collection of awkwardly interfaced devices and puts a proper Neve console back in the heart of the studio.”
