Prosound puts a modern touch on Sibaya Casino’s Tatso Restaurant

South Africa:

Prosound has enjoyed a long relationship with Sun International’s Sibaya Casino and Entertainment Kingdom. A top Durban holiday destination set in the hills of Kwa-Zulu Natal, the casino first enlisted Prosound to supply, install and programme iLight Inductive/ Incandescent Dimmer Source Controllers for the entire Sibaya Casino Complex back in 2004. The distributor and systems integrator has dutifully serviced the complex ever since. Over 15 years later and the relationship is still blossoming. So, when the complex made the decision to upgrade its older incandescent lighting to LED, Prosound was the natural choice.

The original 16 year-old iLight dimmers installed throughout the main gaming floor, conference areas, restaurants and the iZulu Theatre had performed “flawlessly”, but the casino’s move to replace older incandescent bulbs with LED retrofits for all chandeliers and downlight in its Tatso Restaurant prompted their replacement. Prosound upgraded them to iLight SCA Adaptive Source Controllers, which can provide scene set dimming of loads that require either leading or trailing edge dimming.

Prosound assisted Sibaya Casino maintenance manager Ravin Sahadev with the sourcing of the retrofit lamps for the chandeliers. It also contracted regional iLight programmer, Mike Wiblin of SLS Solutions, to provide on-site project management and re-programme the scene set dimming of the new Adaptive Source Controllers. Durban’s Edison Power Group was also enlisted to re-wire the existing load cables and to do load tests on each circuit. Vinodh Ramdas, contracts manager at the Edison Power Group was on site to project manage and certify the electrical works.

Ironically, the lighting upgrade was completed and the restaurant opened its doors just prior to the lockdown forcing them to close again.
