Speakerbox Bangkok boosts sonic impact with L-Acoustics
Regarded as a cornerstone of Bangkok’s alternative music scene, live music venue Speakerbox has elevated its sonic capabilities through the implementation of an L-Acoustics A Series sound system. The audio upgrade was delivered by Vision One to support diverse musical styles from local and international acts performing rock and punk to soul, jazz, blues and experimental electronic music.
Located in the Thonglor district, Speakerbox has become a melting pot for alternative and emerging artists. Already familiar with L-Acoustics systems, the venue’s consultant reached out directly to the brand’s Thai distributor, Vision One. The goal was to install a high-performance audio system that delivers concert-grade sound quality, while maintaining an easy-to-operate, reliable and rider-friendly system for visiting engineers.
As the venue’s nightly programming varies in genres, it was imperative to choose an audio system that could handle varying SPL demands, support quick changeovers and deliver consistent quality across musical styles. The main challenge was achieving optimal coverage in the compact space while preserving sightlines and integrating with existing lighting.
During the design process, Vision One employed Soundvision 3D modelling software to predict acoustic behaviour and optimise speaker placement in the space. The software allowed the team to visualise SPL coverage across the venue's audience area.
“The A10 system provides an excellent balance of power, clarity and compact form factor – ideal for Speakerbox's size and performance needs,” explained Akarat “Pete” Thitipattakul, business development manager, Vision One. “Its scalable design allows for future expansion, while the A Series is intuitive to operate – crucial for a venue with a small technical team and rotating visiting engineers. The flexibility and consistent medium-throw coverage made it the perfect fit for the client's requirements.”
As Vision One maintains a stock of key L-Acoustics components as well as an experienced installation team, the company was able to recommend, design and install an A10 Wide-based system amidst the venue's nightly music programming, with minimal disruption to operations.
Speakerbox’s new configuration comprises a main L-R system of one A10 Wide speaker per side, rigged into the venue's low ceiling using A10-BUMP flying frames. Two KS21 subwoofers placed on the ground provide low end reinforcement in the small-sized venue, while a single LA4X amplified controller drives the compact system.
The Thai distributor delivered onsite training focused on basic system operation and daily use while providing LA Network Manager configuration settings, all calibrated and fine-tuned for optimal performance.
According to the team, feedback from the Speakerbox team and visiting professionals has been highly positive, with sound engineers praising the system's clarity and power, while performers have noted improved stage presence and consistent coverage throughout the venue.
“We successfully ticked all the boxes the venue required, ensuring the client's satisfaction and instilling a sense of confidence with the technical operations of the brand-new system,” added Thitipattakul. “This in turn has led to the elevation of the venue's profile among booking agents and touring artists.”
