L-Acoustics A15 and KS21 take the stage in SEA
Hot and humid weather could not deter close to 100 rental and install sound professionals from attending the demo launch event organised by distributor Sennheiser Asia for L-Acoustics’ new A15 multifunctional full-range loudspeaker and its sub companion KS21 at the outdoor Coliseum on Singapore’s Sentosa island.
Part of the A Series introduced just a few months earlier, a flown central cluster of four A15 Wide providing 120° horizontal dispersion, as well as left and right stacks each comprising two A15 Focus on top of two KS21 subs, served as examples for the acclaimed versatility of this product family. This allows users to form stacked or flown horizontal and vertical arrays with Panflex technology to achieve the required coverage, or to deploy single elements, targeting audience sizes anywhere from 50 to 5,000 according to the manufacturer.
Khiew Chung Wah, L-Acoustics’ application engineer for Asia, explained further details such as the simplicity of setup and configuration as a result of a ‘one-on-one’ concept – one sub for any one top, and one channel of an LA4X amplified controller for any one enclosure. Indeed, the entire system was powered by just three LA4X, all receiving signals via AVB from a P1 processor/bridge.
In addition to the scalability and features of the A Series, Khiew highlighted an added value particularly for new L-Acoustics users on the road. ‘It is the entry ticket to the L-Acoustics Rental Network,’ he stated, ‘which, up until now, was reserved for K Series only.’
The audience was then able to listen to both horizontal and vertical arrays with speech and playback music before a five-piece rock/pop live band performed on stage.
Luther Ong, director of local integrator, Resonate Solutions, was ‘most impressed with the wide coverage, which would be beneficial in some 500- to 800-seat houses of worship where the room is wider than deep,’ adding that he also liked ‘the pressure of the subs all the way to the back while, for a 21-inch model, being compact in size.’
James Tan, technical manager of Atech Integration Engineering, agreed: ‘I can imagine systems in churches, auditoriums and multipurpose halls. I very much like the sound – with the playback music, it was almost hi-fi.’
A 10-strong delegation from Resorts World Genting including assistant manager Tony Lim had made the trip from Malaysia. ‘Not long ago we had a K2 system installed in one of our larger venues,’ said Lim. ‘We are now here exploring solutions for other spaces. We would need to try it out on site, but initially the A Series could work well in our 2,000-seat outdoor amphitheatre.’
