Maroon 5 debuts in India with L-Acoustics

India:

Maroon 5 recently performed its debut concert in India at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai. Technical production and AV rental company Mega Sound was engaged to provide sound engineering for the show, supplying a tailored L-Acoustics system alongside a DiGiCo console for mixing.

The Mahalaxmi Racecourse is a prominent venue known for hosting large-scale events, with the Maroon 5 concert attracting over 20,000 attendees. Mega Sound noted that the outdoor nature of the venue presented challenges, including wind and acoustics. “We proactively adjusted the rigging and used advanced simulation software to ensure precise sound placement and distribution. Additionally, the L-Acoustics M1 calibration tool helped maintain even coverage across the entire venue,” explained Siddharth Chauhan, audio director and owner of Mega Sound.

The Mega Sound team was led by Chauhan and head system designer Vishrut V Joshi. The L-Acoustics setup featured 48 K1 tops, 20 K2 tops, 24 K1SB subwoofers, 48 KS28 subs and KARA fills for optimal sound distribution. The cabinets were arranged in main, outer and delay hangs to ensure even coverage across the expansive open-air venue.

Amplification was powered through the LA-RAK II AVB rack and live sound mixing was courtesy of a DiGiCo Quantum 5 console. Mega Sound also leveraged advanced simulation software to design a custom sound map, which was approved by Maroon 5’s technical team with minimal adjustments.

Mega Sound’s Sanjay K managed FOH design and signal transport, with Swapnil Elpass and Harshal Pillare on the technical team. Stage operations were led by Devender Jethi and supported by stage tech Lokesh Salvi.

“It was an honour to be part of Maroon 5’s India debut,” concluded Chauhan. “The technical execution of the sound system went smoothly and the collaboration with the band’s engineers was exceptional. We are proud to have delivered an unforgettable audio experience that met international standards. This event is a testament to India’s growing capabilities in hosting world-class productions.”
