L-Acoustics brings beach club vibes to Vietnam
Regarded as one of Asia’s premier beachside EDM destinations, Valley Beach Club in Vietnam has recently undergone a sonic transformation through the installation of a new L-Acoustics K1 sound system. The solution replaces the club’s previous L-Acoustics system of K2, K1-SB and KS28 components which was substantially damaged following a powerful typhoon which hit the region shortly after it was installed.
The 5,000-capacity venue, situated on the picturesque shores of Ha Long Bay places a strong focus on delivering festival-grade audio experiences. Located on a 4,800m2 beachfront site, Valley Beach Club attracts a regular programme of highly-ranked international artists and DJs for nightly dance music sets which draw EDM enthusiasts from across the region.
The audio restoration project following the typhoon was carried out by the French manufacturer’s regional distributor, PRO-AVL Vietnam. “The restoration process following the typhoon provided Valley Beach Club with a unique opportunity to elevate their audio capabilities to match their vision,” explains Mr Thang from PRO-AVL Vietnam. “The venue's ownership specifically requested a K1 system design, recognising that L-Acoustics' flagship line array speakers are synonymous with world-class EDM programming.”
The comprehensive restoration featured a K1 system configuration designed by L-Acoustics APAC senior application engineer, Chung Wah Khiew. Working in close collaboration with the PRO-AVL Vietnam team, Khiew's design proposal was reportedly accepted without hesitation.
Valley Beach Club's beachside location presents unique acoustic challenges that demand precision engineering. The venue operates within a densely populated entertainment district where neighbouring venues create a complex, noise-sensitive audio environment. Additionally, as the coastal setting subjects equipment to significant climatic challenges, it was imperative that an environmentally protective solution was deployed.
"Designing an optimal system for Valley Beach Club required careful consideration of both the unique coastal environment and the venue's ambitious programming requirements,” added Thang. “The K1's superior power and precision capabilities ensure consistent, impactful sound coverage across the entire venue while minimising spillage to surrounding properties.”
The new L-Acoustics solution comprises a main system of L-R hangs featuring four K1-SB subwoofers and 12 K1 line array elements, with two K2 enclosures per side providing extended coverage. Six ground stacks of four KS28 subwoofers each are positioned at the front of the stage, delivering the low end impact essential for contemporary EDM programming.
Front fills are provided by A10 loudspeakers: two sets of A10 Wide enclosures atop the outer subwoofer stacks and two sets of dual A10 Focus units on the middle stacks. This configuration aims to ensure consistent coverage across all audience areas, from the main dancefloor to elevated viewing positions. A pair of A15 enclosures mounted on KS21 subwoofers provide dedicated monitoring for performing DJs. The entire installation is powered by 24 LA12X amplified controllers operating over a Milan-AVB network protocol.
The impact of the new K1 system has been felt by performing artists. Vietnamese musician, composer and producer Bui Huy Tuan, who facilitated the connection between PRO-AVL Vietnam and Valley Beach Club, experienced the system's capabilities firsthand.
“Having experienced K1 at large-scale concerts featuring artists like Adele, BlackPink, and Bruno Mars, I was overwhelmed by the experience with K1 at Valley Beach Club,” he revealed. “The sophistication in each frequency range creates something magical – for the first time in a club environment, I could hear bass melodies with perfect clarity. The frequency separation at different listening angles creates a complete, clear experience that brings entirely different emotions to the club space.”
