PP Sound Lights powers Akon’s India shows
Akon’s India tour drew large audiences this month in New Delhi and Mumbai, supported by a full technical ecosystem delivered by PP Sound Lights Productions. The company handled all audio, lighting, LED, trussing, staging, wireless systems and backline for both shows.
PP Sound Lights Productions founder and director Prasad Parkar described the project as a demonstration of the company’s technical approach. “What our team at PP Sound Lights Production delivered in New Delhi and Mumbai was more than technical execution. It was a demonstration of discipline, understanding and craftsmanship,” he said.
Planning began with an assessment of show requirements and venue layouts. Both cities featured long rectangular open-air grounds, enabling PP Sound Lights Productions to implement a consistent technical plan. That plan placed significant emphasis on audio coverage and system control.
The main PA system in both cities was built around Meyer Sound components. Thirteen Panther line array modules per side formed the main stereo hangs. These were supported by three Panther out fills per side to cover lateral zones, along with four Panther units at the stage lip for front fill. Low-frequency output relied on 18 Meyer Sound 1100-LFC subwoofers arranged in an end-fire gradient configuration to improve forward low-frequency projection while reducing energy on stage.
Delay towers were necessary due to the depth of the audience areas. Each tower carried six Panther modules paired with three 2100-LFC subwoofers, designed to maintain consistent tonality throughout the venue footprint.
System management centred on three DiGiCo Quantum 338 consoles for FOH, monitors and redundancy. An Optocore fibre network handled routing and signal transport. Onstage, vocal transmission ran through Shure Axient Digital wireless systems fitted with KSM8 capsules. Performers monitored through multiple channels of Sennheiser in-ear monitoring systems. Backline requirements were met with a complete equipment package aligned to the artists’ rider.
Visual and structural elements supported the audio system. A 3.9 mm outdoor LED wall formed the central display behind the artists, supported by 2.6 mm LED screens on each side and additional iMag screens placed deeper into the audience area. Trussing structures were engineered to support audio, lighting and LED loads across both venues.
Each city featured a different lighting design, with New Delhi deploying more than 100 Martin Professional fixtures, while Mumbai used a similar number of Claypaky fixtures. Control for both shows ran through grandMA3 full-size consoles.
A senior member of the artist management team responsible for bringing the entire Akon India Tour together said: “Across both New Delhi and Mumbai; all the technical elements fused into one coherent, powerful whole. The staging felt refined and secure. The visual presentation was captivating. The lighting carried emotion. The LED displays brought intimacy. And the sound – rich, clean, powerful and perfectly balanced – carried Akon’s voice and music across thousands of hearts with breathtaking accuracy.”
