PreSonus brings new sound to Red Hare Bar
Red Hare Bar, a vibrant nightlife location situated in Semarang, Central Java, has installed a new sound system built around PreSonus CDL12 loudspeakers, as part of an effort to support both DJ-led and live band performances within a single-room venue. Systems integration was undertaken by the venue’s in-house engineering team, working in collaboration with Panca Inti Bermitra which supported the design and simulation stages.
The project was defined by a requirement for high SPL levels, even coverage and a consistent tonal balance that would remain comfortable over extended listening periods. These goals were set alongside cost constraints, shaping both system selection and deployment strategy.
The installation also came with several technical challenges. The venue’s interior design did not allow the use of delay speakers, meaning the entire sound coverage had to be achieved using only the main system near the stage. In addition, the installation schedule was relatively tight, requiring a solution that was both efficient and reliable.
One of the key challenges came from the venue’s square layout and parallel walls. This type of architectural design naturally produces strong sound reflections, which can lead to unwanted echoes and frequency buildup. To mitigate these issues, the loudspeaker system needed strong directivity control, allowing sound energy to be focused toward the audience while minimising excessive reflections from the walls.
To address these factors, the installation team specified a system of 12 PreSonus CDL12 loudspeakers. The units are arranged in four flown arrays of three cabinets each and rigged above the main stage, which serves as the performance area for both DJs and live bands. The configuration comprises out fill left, left, centre and right positions designed to distribute sound evenly across the audience area without supplementary delay reinforcement.
Systems design was supported by modelling in AFMG’s EASE Focus software, which informed decisions on array angles, trim height and cabinet quantity. This approach aimed to align the loudspeaker deployment with the venue’s acoustic conditions and coverage requirements.
Operational control is handled via a PreSonus StudioLive 32SC digital mixing console, paired with a NSB 32.16 stagebox from the brand. This setup allows the venue to switch between DJ and live performance workflows with minimal reconfiguration.
Since installation, the project team has reported an enhanced listening experience for guests, with consistent sound coverage across the venue that accommodates different performance formats.
