Musikal Perahu Kertas calls on Clear-Com for coordinated communication
Clear-Com communication systems were recently deployed for Musikal Perahu Kertas, a large-scale theatre production in Indonesia based on the novel by Dee Lestari. Presented by Trinity Entertainment Network in collaboration with Indonesia Kaya and the Trinity Youth Symphony Orchestra (TRUST), the production featured live orchestration, frequent scene changes and simultaneous backstage activity requiring coordinated communication across multiple departments.
The Clear-Com system was supplied and operated by Indonesia-based rental specialist 86inc, which designed the infrastructure around the Eclipse HX platform to support the production’s operational requirements. The deployment included an Eclipse HX MVX-A16 card for routing and system management, an E-IPA card with IP transceivers, more than 15 FreeSpeak II wireless beltpacks and a V-Series control panel positioned at FOH. Teams working backstage, FOH, in dressing rooms and within the orchestra pit were connected through the centralised matrix system. The setup supported 10 dedicated communication channels, allowing departments to coordinate independently without unnecessary crossover or interference during performances.
“Clear and reliable communication is key to the success of the show,” commented Caron Shaine, production manager of Musikal Perahu Kertas.
The production involved multiple moving stage elements and rapid transitions throughout the performance schedule, placing additional emphasis on operational coordination and crew safety. “This musical had many moving parts, including heavy equipment and frequent stage changes,” added Oscar Yulius Joseph, technical and operational manager at 86inc. “We knew how critical it is to coordinate crews safely and make sure cues between actors, lighting and music happened at the right time.”
