DW Audio & Backline enters into LED rental with Absen
Pretoria-based rental company DW Audio & Backline has expanded its production inventory with the purchase of Absen NT3.9W LED display panels from DWR Distribution, marking the company’s entry into LED display services for live events and entertainment productions.
Founded in 2008 by De Waal Bothma, DW Audio & Backline has gradually expanded from backline and audio rental into a broader technical production provider covering lighting, AV and staging services across the South African events sector.
“I’ve waited a long time for this moment, and I’m so happy,” commented Bothma. “We were going to buy a 5m x 3m LED display but ended up doubling the panels from the start.”
According to the company, the investment was driven by increasing demand for visual production elements across live music events, festivals and theatre productions. “LED is no longer a nice-to-have – it’s a must,” added Bothma. “Visually, it brings a lot of energy depending on how you use it.”
DW Audio & Backline primarily supports productions within the Afrikaans music market alongside school productions and festivals, and has served as the main technical supplier for AfriForum Theatre for the past six years. As part of the purchase, the team also completed technical training at DWR Distribution covering LED display installation, calibration and Novastar configuration workflows.
“We are very excited and grateful for this opportunity,” said Duncan Riley from DWR Distribution. “Many companies in the rental industry have Absen, and there is a big pool to sub-rent.”
“Thank you very much to De Waal and the team at DW Audio and Backline for your support,” added Werner Nieman from DWR, who orchestrated the sale. “We know this purchase will enable you to offer a full solution to your clients, and you can count on DWR to support you all the way. It’s been such an encouragement to see the passion and excitement of De Waal and his team, and we are confident that this investment will serve them well for many years to come.”
