Optimal Audio’s Cuboid speakers have been installed at the Shanghai Metropolitan VIP Lounge to provide a firm low end and even coverage under an octagonal dome prone to echo. The client sought a solution that would allow conversation to flow in the seating booths without shouting and a discreet finish to complement crystal chandeliers and original Shanghainese woodwork.

In the lounge area populated with seating booths, Cuboid 10 units provide warm and detailed midrange, while the dancefloor benefits from Cuboid 12 enclosures where the 12-inch drivers have been selected to deliver deep and solid tones while keeping the rhythm tight and defined. The trapezoid wooden cabinets sit naturally with the venue’s heritage interior, whether wall-mounted, suspended, portrait or landscape. Flexible mounting and the rotatable HF horn mean coverage reaches the corners as much as the centre.

The reverberance of the dome’s acoustics was tamed with the passive 2-way design of the Cuboid enclosures. The outcome is described as a reliable and distortion-free sound system for the long evening sessions of dancing.
