Meyer Sound opens Shanghai manufacturing facility
Meyer Sound has opened a new manufacturing facility and office in Shanghai, China, through a wholly owned subsidiary that will produce selected loudspeaker products for the domestic market.
The 4,500m2 facility, located in western Shanghai, will initially employ staff in product assembly, quality control and finance. According to the US company, products will be assembled using the same processes and quality control standards as those used at its Berkeley, California headquarters. Meyer Sound personnel from Berkeley will provide initial training and support to ensure alignment with global assembly and testing procedures.
The move comes as demand for professional audio systems continues to grow across China, particularly in performing arts centres, theatres and live venues in rapidly developing cities beyond the country’s largest metropolitan areas.
China has become Meyer Sound’s largest market for its PANTHER line array outside the United States, with sales supported by distributor Shanghai Broad Future (SBF). The new facility will manufacture several of the company’s loudspeaker products for the local market, including the PANTHER line array and 2100-LFC low-frequency control element. Production of the TIGRA line array and 1800-LFC is expected to begin later this year.
“The new factory will significantly accelerate Meyer Sound’s momentum in one of the world’s most active markets for live sound and the performing arts,” said Meyer Sound’s senior vice president, John McMahon. “This facility is about supporting the next phase of that growth.”
