Vitec and LG Electronics have announced a partnership to deliver IPTV and digital signage over private 5G networks, combining VITEC’s video distribution technologies with LG Electronics’ private 5G networking expertise. The integrated solution is aimed at large venues including sports and entertainment facilities, airports, conference centres, hotels and casinos.

According to the companies, the technology enables IPTV and digital signage deployments without wired network connections. This allows organisations to add displays without additional network drops, support temporary or portable installations and extend existing systems into new indoor and outdoor areas without additional cabling.

“We’re very excited to be working with LG Electronics and bringing this private 5G technology to market,” said Eli Garten, senior vice president, global IPTV and partner solutions, Vitec. “This combined solution gives large-scale venues flexibility to deploy IPTV and digital signage without the constraints of wired infrastructure. With video applications, performance has traditionally been a limiting factor over wireless networks, but with this new integrated solution with we can now confidently deliver the same low latency streaming and reliability our customers expect from Vitec.”

Private 5G networks are onsite cellular networks that operate on licensed spectrum, providing organisations with greater control over network performance, security and reliability. The companies said the technology offers a more predictable environment for real-time video applications than networks operating on shared spectrum.

“While private 5G is already being adopted across sectors such as manufacturing, transportation and healthcare, its use for enterprise video remains at an early stage,” noted Joon Sung Lee, private 5G head in the LG Electronics CTO’s office. “Now, together with Vitec, we are demonstrating how video can be delivered reliably over next-generation wireless networks.”

The integrated offering combines VITEC’s IPTV and digital signage platforms with LG Electronics’ private 5G infrastructure, including onsite core networking, distributed antennas and centralised management software.

VITEC and LG Electronics said the solution has undergone testing using commercially available technologies and is designed to support more flexible and scalable AV deployments.
