Irdeto names Axel Gallant as CEO

Irdeto has announced a leadership transition which sees Axel Gallant appointed as the company’s new CEO while Doug Lowther steps down from the role following 11 years with the digital platform cybersecurity business.

Irdeto noted that Lowther, who has served as CEO since 2015, has been instrumental in cementing the company’s position in the global cybersecurity market. During his tenure as CEO, Irdeto more than doubled its market share in video security and developed new businesses in video games and smart mobility. Prior to serving as CEO, Lowther assumed the position of EVP, Digital TV, expanding the company’s product line to support new services such as video on demand and streaming TV.

“Doug has provided strong leadership during a pivotal period in Irdeto’s history,” said Stéphane Baumier, CTO at CANAL+, Irdeto’s parent company. “On behalf of the CANAL+ Group, we thank him for his contributions and commitment to Irdeto.”

Lowther added: “The last decade has been marked by constant change in the world and in the industries we serve, and it’s been a great honour to lead the incredible people at Irdeto during that time. I’d like to thank our customers, partners and stakeholders for the trust they have placed in us and the privilege of working with them.”

Baumier remarked on Gallant assuming the CEO position: “Axel has worked at CANAL+ since 2013, managing various pay-TV businesses for the group across Africa, Europe and Asia. This track record gives him the experience and perspective to guide Irdeto through its next phase of growth and innovation.”
