In the fast-paced world of live production, where reliability and speed are critical, multipair cables remain an essential backbone for audio and lighting distribution. A key distinction in analogue multipair designs lies in the shielding. Cables built with individually shielded pairs using red copper spiral shielding provide protection against crosstalk and electromagnetic interference. These constructions are available in configurations ranging from two to 52 channels, with a conductor cross-section of 0.22mm2.
Within this category, Tasker offers the C402 series, without an overall shield, designed to maximise flexibility and ease of handling for mobile applications, and the C302 series, with an additional overall braided copper shield, suitable for enhanced noise immunity in more demanding environments.
Entry-level digital multipair cables, like the TSK802 series, feature 0.14mm² conductors and aluminium foil shielding on each pair, provide a lightweight and cost-effective solution for DMX and AES/EBU applications, supporting up to 24 channels. However, more advanced solutions are now gaining attention. The TSK702 multipair cables feature individually shielded pairs with copper foil and larger 0.22mm² conductors. These designs combine improved electrical performance with enhanced mechanical robustness, while maintaining flexibility thanks to soft PVC outer jackets. These solutions are particularly suited for pre-made systems and touring applications, where repeated handling and coiling demand superior durability.
Further up the range, high-performance digital multipair cables such as the C802 series, incorporate red copper spiral shielding on each pair, providing signal integrity without the need for an overall shield. These cables are ideal for complex stage environments where multiple digital signals must coexist without interference.
For fixed installations, compliance with fire safety standards becomes a critical requirement. The TSK902 series is CPR-rated, Cca class and specifically engineered for permanent installation in public venues. These designs typically feature solid conductors with larger cross-sections, aluminium foil shielding on each pair and an overall tinned copper braid. Combined with LSZH (low smoke zero halogen) outer jackets, they provide enhanced fire performance, low smoke emission and suitability for both indoor and outdoor use.
