AJA extends Kona and Corvid workflows with Io Xpand
Described as a Thunderbolt 5-enabled PCIe expansion chassis designed to bring Kona and Corvid video and audio I/O cards to Thunderbolt-equipped laptops, AJA Video Systems has introduced Io Xpand. Targeting applications where portability and space efficiency are important, the chassis allows users to combine a Thunderbolt 5 computer with a Kona 1, 4 or 5 cards to create a compact workstation for video capture and playback. Support is also provided for most Corvid I/O cards, enabling developers to build smaller-footprint systems around AJA's PCIe hardware.
Compatible with Thunderbolt 3, 4 and 5, as well as USB4, Io Xpand supports Windows, macOS and Linux operating systems. The chassis accommodates full-height, half-length PCIe cards, including double-width cards and cards fitted with daughter boards.
The chassis delivers up to 6,000MB/s of bidirectional PCIe bandwidth to the installed card. Additional features include Thunderbolt daisy-chaining via a second Thunderbolt port, a temperature-controlled cooling fan and a lightweight aluminium enclosure designed for portable deployment. Io Xpand will be available as a standalone chassis or bundled with Kona I/O cards.
