India:

Christie laser projectors are powering a new permanent projection mapping experience at the 17th-century Leh Palace, transforming the Himalayan landmark into an immersive nighttime attraction through large-scale architectural projection. Implemented by the India Tourism Development Corporation (ITDC), the multimedia experience, titled Secrets in Stone, was created and delivered by CS Direkt Events & Exhibitions. The show uses projection mapping to animate the palace façade, bringing the site’s history and cultural heritage to life while preserving its architectural character.

Located more than 3,500m above sea level in the Himalayas, the installation is believed to be one of the world’s highest permanent projection mapping experiences. To meet the demands of the project, CS Direkt deployed two 30,000-lumen Christie 3DLP laser projectors alongside a 12,000-lumen Christie 1DLP laser projector, supported by dedicated media servers and signal distribution infrastructure.

“The vision for Secrets in Stone was to create an experience where technology serves the story and the architecture, not the other way around,” said Sanjeev Pasricha, group CEO of CS Direkt. “Christie’s laser projection technology gave us the brightness, reliability and image performance needed to deliver a visually compelling experience in an extremely demanding environment.”

Operating in the high-altitude environment required custom weatherproof enclosures with temperature and humidity control, protected airflow management and ruggedised mounting systems. The installation also involved extensive civil works, including projector foundations, underground cabling, and winter testing and calibration to ensure reliable long-term operation.

“Projection mapping on a heritage monument like Leh Palace requires far more than brightness alone,” added Rishubh Nayar, ProAV sales director for India at Christie. “It demands precision, durability and the ability to deliver stunning images consistently in very challenging outdoor conditions.”
