Aurras increases Ayrton stock in South Africa
Aurras Group has expanded its inventory of Ayrton lighting fixtures, adding Stradale Profiles and increasing its stock of Nando 502 Wash fixtures to support a wider range of productions across South Africa. The investment builds on the company's existing inventory of Rivale Profiles and brings its total Ayrton fleet to 120 fixtures, making it the largest Ayrton rental inventory in South Africa.
Formed in 2023 through the merger of TechX and OutputAV, Aurras Group supplies lighting, audio, video, staging and power systems for live events, theatre, festivals, conferences and installations. The company has worked closely with Ayrton's South African distributor, Planetworld, on the expansion.
“When we formed Aurras we had to decide what brand to invest in,” said Justin Heyman, co-founder of Aurras Group. “Mike [Summerfield, Planetworld's pro live business development manager] introduced us to Ayrton and we haven't looked back since. We cater for a very wide range of projects and felt that Ayrton fixtures had the versatility to be able to handle this.”
Planetworld's pro live business development manager, Mike Summerfield, said the flexibility of Ayrton's range suited the demands of the local rental market. “The nature of the South African market demands a lot of flexibility, so we knew Ayrton would be a perfect match for Aurras.”
According to Heyman, the Rivale Profile was selected for its combination of compact size, output, IP65 rating and feature set. The company later expanded its inventory with additional Rivale Profiles, Nando 502 Washes, Zonda 3 Washes and, most recently, 24 Stradale Profiles, becoming the first South African rental company to take delivery of the fixture.
“We were very excited and very impressed with what we saw: with Stradale we now have 24 smaller units that can basically deliver a similar output and features as Rivale,” noted Heyman.
The fixtures have already been deployed on a variety of corporate, theatre and festival productions, including for the main stage at Rocking the Daisies in Cape Town where Aurras deployed 24 Rivale Profiles, 10 Stradale Profiles and 34 Nando 502 LED Wash fixtures.
“We've had amazing support from Planetworld," concluded Heyman. “The fixtures have shown excellent performance with minimal issues, reinforcing our decision to invest in additional units. They're total workhorses and we're finding the build quality of the units excellent.”
