Remembering Kelvin Ashby-King

APAC:

We were very saddened to hear that the highly respected and talented AV consultant Kelvin Ashby-King has passed away at the age of 64.

While Ashby-King initially studied psychology and education at Auckland and Massey Universities in New Zealand, he found his true calling in the world of audio and lighting. Moving into the entertainment industry, he worked for various theatre companies and travelling productions in New Zealand, Australia and the UK, also creating over 50 productions as a freelance designer in musical theatre, opera, ballet and drama. In 1985 he became director of sales for Asia at Selecon New Zealand.

In 1990, Ashby-King joined Inova Audio Visual in Singapore as design director before setting up the Inova Group Design Studio in Bangkok, forming Inova Consulting in 2000 by retaining the Indian, Indonesian and Thai branches when the parent company was sold. In 2010, now living in India where he spent almost three decades, he founded T2 Consulting Group (T2), which completed many high profile and groundbreaking AV installations across the region.

In 2021, Ashby-King set up Clarity Consulting which has branches in Bengaluru, Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, Ahmedabad and Dubai. A statement from the company said: “Kelvin’s last moments were exactly as he lived – with a cigarette on his lips, audio and lighting buzzing in his head and in the midst of a work call session. We cannot image a better way for him to go than like this. Surrounded and immersed in his work, and definitely not in a hospital or a sick bed, given all his health conditions.”

A memorial honouring the life and career of Kelvin Ashby-King will be held at the Banquet Hall of the Mahalaxmi Race Course in Mumbai on 1 July 2026 from 5.30-1pm. All are welcome to pay tribute to this remarkable man who was known and loved by so many.
