Extron modernises Singapore’s As-Syafaah Mosque
Singapore’s As-Syafaah Mosque has completed an AV upgrade centred on Extron technologies, improving video distribution, system control and live streaming across the four-storey worship facility.
Originally opened in 2004 in Sembawang, the mosque accommodates up to 4,000 worshippers and includes multiple prayer halls, classrooms, offices and a multipurpose hall. The recent renovation sought to modernise the AV infrastructure while ensuring installation work was completed within a month without disrupting the mosque’s five daily prayer services.
UnitedVenus Engineering Services designed the AV system, with Maxxmedia International responsible for installation. “We had budget constraints, but with the help of Extron, we were able to design a system that met our requirements and stayed within budget,” said Shamsudin Bin Isnin of UnitedVenus Engineering Services.
The installation is built around an Extron DXP HD 4K PLUS HDMI matrix switcher, DVS 605 scaler, DTP HD DA 4K 330 distribution amplifiers and DTP HDMI 4K 330 transmitters and receivers, enabling 4K video routing throughout the mosque. The system distributes content from PTZ cameras, PCs and audio sources to displays and projectors serving the main prayer halls, classrooms, reception areas and overflow spaces.
To enhance worship services, the mosque has also deployed a SMP 351 H.264 Streaming Media Processor with Dual Recording LinkLicense. The platform supports live streaming and recording of sermons, including Friday prayers, allowing worshippers in overflow areas to follow services in real time while recordings can be made available online. Picture-in-picture functionality is provided through the DVS 605 scaler.
Daily operation is managed using TouchLink Pro touchpanels installed throughout the building. An IPCP Pro 550 xi control processor forms the core of the control system, while an IPCP Pro 350 xi manages AV sub-distribution. The interface enables staff to control video routing, camera functions, audio presets, streaming, recording and motorised blinds through a simplified graphical user interface.
According to Alan Hong, sales and project manager at Maxxmedia International: “Extron was chosen for their established brand, fantastic support and local repair centre. Extron products have been successfully deployed at many mosques around Singapore and are well known for their reliability, ease of use and performance. Extron products have proven to be a robust solution with excellent support, ensuring they will be a durable, long-lasting choice.”
