Lighting designer Roosevelt D'Souza selected a Chauvet Professional lighting rig to support Indian playback singer Javid Ali's performance at the Sydney Opera House during the Australian stop of his Rafi Aur Main tour.
The sold out concert featured a lighting design built around Chauvet Professional STRIKE, Maverick and Rogue fixtures, with D'Souza creating a series of changing looks to complement the varied musical programme.
“We changed looks throughout the concert to keep pace with the versatility of Javid Ali’s music while also reflecting its very moving soulful quality,” said D'Souza. “So, we might have a song start off very low keyed, and then, all of a sudden there are beats of suspense music. At that point, we have lights blinking throughout the entire concert hall. The Chauvet Professional fixtures gave me this kind of flexibility.”
The production featured a staggered truss design reaching up to approximately 18m, with lighting positions arranged at varying heights and intervals across the stage. According to D'Souza, this configuration supported the creation of 65 different lighting looks during the three-hour performance.
The rig included 12 Color STRIKE M motorised strobes, which were used for stage and roof illumination, strobe effects and colour treatments. Maverick and Rogue fixtures provided colour washes to complement the concert's video content and stage visuals.
“It was important for me to cover the entire stage, so we had a broad canvas to work with,” noted D'Souza. “In my view, there was no better way to do this than with the Color STRIKE M. We used it to light the roof to expand our design, to create strobing action and to set different tones with colour effects.”
