L-ISA immerses at Yim Jae-Beom farewell concert
L-Acoustics' L-ISA immersive audio technology played a central role in South Korean singer Yim Jae-Beom's 40th anniversary farewell concert, with a large-scale deployment at Seoul's KSPO Dome designed to deliver consistent sound coverage for audiences of up to 15,000.
The production, supplied by L-Acoustics certified provider Klausys in partnership with Hyundae Sound, used an L-ISA Focus configuration built around K Series loudspeakers to create a more natural listening experience throughout the arena.
According to FOH engineer Doosoo Park of Hyundae Sound, the objective was to maintain intimacy despite the venue's size. “The production was never intended to sound exaggerated or overwhelming,” he explained. “Gi-Deok wanted the audience to feel close to the artist and the band – close enough to hear the smallest details, even Jae-Beom's breathing. We both agreed very early that L-ISA was the right technology for achieving that level of realism and connection."
Klausys designed the system using the manufacturer’s Soundvision software to model coverage and optimise the L-ISA listening zones across the arena's floor and three seating tiers. Cheol Jang, head of application at Klausys, said the modelling process was instrumental in refining the deployment. “With L-ISA, we were able to reproduce the position, separation and resolution of each audio source much more precisely,” he noted. “The result was a far more immersive and detailed listening experience throughout the arena.”
The main system featured five frontal L-ISA Scene arrays comprising 60 K2 loudspeakers, supported by 48 Kara II for extension and out fill coverage, seven A15 Focus front fills and a combination of flown and ground-stacked KS28 subwoofers. The system was powered by 18 LA-RAK II AVB touring racks, with an L-ISA Processor I, P1 processor and LC16D audio converter forming the network backbone.
Visual content was also integrated with the immersive audio environment, with show producer James Koo linking moving audio objects in the L-ISA Controller to dynamic video elements.
Composer and music producer Gi-Deok Park said the system met the creative goals of the production. “What impressed us most was the natural resonance and emotional impact of the live sound,” he said. “The immersion and clarity of both the vocal and band mix remained exceptional throughout the venue.”
The concert marked one of the largest Korean live productions to utilise L-ISA since its deployment at the same venue during the Los Angeles Philharmonic's performance in 2019.
