L-Acoustics L1 powers Joker Xue world tour debut
L-Acoustics' L1 large-format line source system has made its global touring debut on Chinese Mandopop artist Joker Xue's Evolution world tour. Shanghai-based production company MRT deployed the system across the stadium production in what is also the first large-scale L1 deployment in Asia.
Launched earlier this year, the L1 system is being used alongside the companion CS1 cardioid subwoofer on the tour, which features a four-sided stage measuring 93m x 53m x 36m (WxDxH). The production also incorporates a 5,600m2 LED display surrounding the audience.
MRT, one of only four L-Acoustics L1 pilot partners worldwide and the only certified partner in Asia, began deploying the system two months before its official launch. The brand’s regional distributor Rightway Audio Consultants (Racpro) supported the deployment throughout the tour.
The main system consists of four hangs, each comprising four L1 enclosures and one L1D, delivering performance comparable to a 15 element K1 array while reducing rigging actions and overall system weight. According to L-Acoustics, the integrated cardioid design of the L1 and CS1 also helps reduce low-frequency energy on stage.
The system design was developed using Soundvision software, with the manufacturer’s latest Autofilter algorithm used to optimise array coverage and low-frequency control for the tour's four-sided stage configuration.
Alongside the L1 and L1D elements, the complete audio system features four hangs of eight CS1 subwoofers, 12 L2 and four L2D side fill loudspeakers, 80 KS28 subwoofers, 82 Kara II loudspeakers, 36 LA7.16 amplified controllers and 52 LA12X amplified controllers.
For FOH engineer Zhang Junjun, the system's high-frequency performance stood out: “From my very first listen, I thought the high frequencies were absolutely beautiful. It has a sweet top end that never gets tiring. It's comfortable any way you listen.”
Audio director Zhang Xiaonian added: “The biggest thing I noticed was how sonically clean everything was. There was no low-end rumble or stray reflections to distract the artist. During soundcheck and mic setup, the whole audio experience was exceptionally clean.”
Music director Liu Zhuo concluded: “Every heavy-impact effect I mixed, every tone and the clarity of the final output – that's what really met and even exceeded my expectations.”
The Evolution tour continues across China, with a further 12 performances scheduled at Beijing's National Stadium before additional international dates are announced.
