Energycon Engineering revitalises audio at Kuan Im Tng temple
A major audio upgrade has been completed at Kuan Im Tng temple in the Joo Chiat district in Singapore, with local systems integrator Energycon Engineering delivering a high-performance sound solution designed specifically for vocal chanting and ceremonial music. The temple’s previous system faced frequent technical breakdowns, uneven sound coverage, muffled, unclear audio during services and operational complexity for non-technical staff. With large seasonal crowds, reliability and clarity were non-negotiable.
“We were tasked with ensuring the sound was clear when background music is playing or when the monks are chanting,” says Jing Yang, audio visual engineer at Energycon Engineering. “We also needed to provide even coverage throughout the prayer hall and make sure the system was easy to operate for staff. They’d been attempting to fix each broken piece of equipment which was proving costly, so they decided they wanted a reliable system.”
Energycon Engineering – working alongside UPSV, the authorised distributor of Powersoft and Bose Professional in Vietnam – proposed a solution around Powersoft’s Quattrocanali 4804 DSP, providing advanced onboard DSP for precision tuning in a single-zone layout. The model delivers Smart Rails Management (SRM) for energy efficiency and reduced heat, Power Factor Correction (PFC) for stable power delivery and advanced limiters for loudspeaker protection. The system was paired with four Yamaha CHR12 loudspeakers, one Yamaha MG12XU 12-channel mixer, four Shure SM35-TQG wireless headworn microphones, four SLXD1 transmitters and two Shure SLXD4DA dual receivers.
“We had to make sure the system was capable of performing at lower volumes, given that we were using 12-inch point source loudspeakers, so we were able to reduce the volume in Powersoft’s ArmoníaPlus software,” continues Yang. “We also used ArmoníaPlus to make sure that the speakers weren’t too loud or too bassy, especially when the monks are chanting.”
Yang describes the results as uniform audio coverage throughout the main prayer hall, clear and articulate chanting intelligibility, “set-and-forget” reliability for high-traffic events and cooler rack temperatures during extended ceremonies. “We provided the staff with videos of how to operate the system and made it as easy to use as possible – at most all they would need to do is change the volume level,” concludes Yang. “Feedback from the staff has been positive and with Powersoft’s five-year product warranty, we hope we have provided a long-lasting and reliable setup for the temple.”
