Mercoms and Symetrix launch Cognio in Malaysia
Following the recent appointment of Mercoms as Symetrix's exclusive distributor in Malaysia, the two companies hosted a launch and technology showcase in Petaling Jaya, introducing the Cognio DSP platform to local system integrators, consultants and end users. Around 80 industry professionals attended the event, which combined presentations, live demonstrations and hands-on product sessions.
Held at Le Méridien Petaling Jaya, the event featured presentations from Symetrix executives Ty Hawley, VP of sales and marketing, and Ben Olswang, VP of engineering and product management, alongside the official inauguration of the new distribution partnership. Demonstration areas included Cognio DesignOps software workstations and application stations, giving attendees the opportunity to explore the platform directly with the Symetrix team.
The event also marked one of the first ballroom-scale deployments of the Symetrix C20 processor, with the platform used throughout the venue to demonstrate its capabilities in a large-scale live environment.
Mercoms director Steven Chan believes Cognio is well suited to the Malaysian market. “Cognio has a very big advantage over other DSPs in the market,” said Chan. “It's highly scalable with decentralised processing capabilities and its approach to system design through the Cognio software sets it apart. Together, these features give Cognio an advantage over the competition.”
Speaking during the event, Hawley highlighted the importance of meeting partners and customers in person. “We are an engineering company based in Seattle, Washington, and while it's easy to work with partners remotely or over email, nothing replaces being here in person,” she said. “Mercoms has been an amazing partner for us and supports our products extremely well, but these visits allow people to get to know us as a brand. Products are only part of the equation – it's the partnership and support behind them that really matter. You simply can't beat face-to-face engagement.”
Olswang added: "The response to the Cognio launch was extremely positive. We received a lot of thoughtful technical questions, and attendees quickly recognised the value Cognio brings and the different way it approaches solving system design challenges. It was great to discuss a range of applications and how Cognio can help customers and users in Malaysia address their specific requirements."
Feedback from attendees was equally positive, with Chang from Malaysian AV company The Knowledge Group commenting: “This is a very exciting partnership and I'm looking forward to seeing how Symetrix solutions can be applied to future projects for our clients.”
Ricky Hidhayat of local acoustical consultant company Acousticon added: “I think the collaboration between Mercoms and Symetrix is very strong. I particularly like the innovation behind Cognio, which delivers real value for customers and has great potential for future AV applications.”
Organisers added that many attendees also praised Cognio's intuitive workflow, ease of configuration and modern user interface following the live demonstrations.
