Yamaha refreshes audio at Baiturrahmi mosque

Indonesia:

The Baiturrahmi Islamic Centre mosque in South Tangerang, Indonesia, has upgraded its audio system with a Yamaha solution following reports of sound quality issues within the venue.

One of the largest mosques in Indonesia's Banten province, the facility opened in April 2022 and accommodates thousands of worshippers. However, within its first year of operation, complaints emerged about poor sound quality, with excessive reverberation making speech difficult to understand and several areas of the mosque receiving inconsistent coverage.

To resolve the issues, systems integrator HLS Music was commissioned to replace the existing audio system with a Yamaha solution designed to improve clarity both inside the main prayer hall and across the mosque's exterior.

The installation features two VXL1-24 slim line array loudspeakers supported by 12 VXS8 surface-mount loudspeakers in the prayer hall, with a further 20 VXS8s providing outdoor coverage. The system is powered by six PX5 power amplifiers, while a TF Rack digital mixer handles inputs from wired, wireless and lectern microphones.

“Thanks to the vertical line array design, the VXL1-24s precisely control vertical sound dispersion directs audio toward the congregation, rather than the high, domed ceiling. This has resulted in clearer speech and improved intelligibility throughout the space,” said Ahmad Barizi, HLS Music audio engineer. “It has noticeably enhanced the sound quality during worship, particularly in reducing excessive reverberation.”

The upgrade has also simplified day-to-day operation for mosque staff, with the TF Rack providing a more user-friendly interface for less experienced operators. “During the installation and onsite acoustic treatment, it was clear that the sound quality had improved dramatically, compared with the previous system,” confimed Barizi. “Complaints from worshippers have substantially decreased and the mosque management have said how pleased they are with both the results and after-sales support.”
