L-Acoustics delivers even coverage at Monte de Dios

Dominican Republic:

L-Acoustics K2 is providing consistent coverage across almost 8,000 seats at Ministerio Internacional Monte de Dios in Santo Domingo, where Wholestage was tasked with meeting a 3dB level-variation target across the church’s near 180° seating arc.

The church, which opened its new 45,000m2 campus last month, is now the largest Christian church in the Caribbean. Wholestage designed the sound system around K2, with Dominican integrator SoundVideoLight (SVL) responsible for the installation.

“Monte de Dios has a very dynamic service,” said Jonathan Del Villar, CTO and managing partner at Wholestage, an L-Acoustics Certified Provider Distributor for the Dominican Republic. “The band stays on stage the whole time and there is a lot of energy, not necessarily loud, but very dynamic. The low end is an especially important element. They wanted their members and visitors to feel the band and the drums.”

Wholestage modelled the system in L-Acoustics Soundvision to verify coverage and intelligibility across the auditorium before installation. L-Acoustics also supported the design, with Josh Maichele, global application lead for house of worship, proposing a flown end-fire and cardioid configuration for the KS28 subwoofers.

“We had strong support from L-Acoustics throughout the entire project. Josh Maichele, Global Application Lead for House of Worship, was heavily involved, especially during the design stage,” Del Villar says. “It is an almost 180° seating area, so this was a very effective way to ensure there were no low-end cancellations anywhere in the auditorium.”

The main system comprises 48 K2 in four flown arrays of 12, alongside 16 KS28 subwoofers arranged in two hangs of eight. Eight X8 provide front fill, while side fill comprises one A15i Focus over two A15i Wide per side. Two X12 provide delay coverage and four X15 HiQ serve as stage monitors.

The K2 arrays are driven by 192 channels of LA7.16i amplified controller power, while 12 LA12X amplified controllers power the KS28 subwoofers. Three DiGiCo Quantum338 consoles handle FOH, monitor and broadcast duties.

Final calibration used L-Acoustics M1 and P1, with L-Acoustics application engineer Alex Soto working alongside the Wholestage and SVL teams.

The resulting system meets the church’s 3dB coverage target from the front row to the rear of the auditorium, while the end-fire and cardioid subwoofer arrangement was designed to minimise low-frequency cancellations across the wide seating area.

“They wanted their members and visitors to feel the band, the drums, and with this system, they really do,” Del Villar concluded.
