Case Connection and MGG raise R120,000 for Industry SOS

A custom flightcase that transforms into a fully equipped mobile bar has proved a major hit at the Industry SOS Charity Event and Auction, with Case Connection’s Dave Livesey and MGG’s Mark Gaylard helping raise R120,000 for the foundation.

The first of two bespoke Mobile Bar Flight Cases created by the companies was auctioned for R60,000 to Josef Valchar of Robe Lighting. The project proved so popular that Andrew Bosman and Jonathan Bandli of Bad Weather pledged a further R60,000 to have a second case built.

“The Case Connection, in collaboration with our friends at MGG, is proud to have donated not one, but two custom Mobile Bar Flight Cases to the DWR-run Industry SOS Foundation – because sometimes the best way to say ‘we’ve got your back’ is with an actual bar in a box and, apparently, once wasn’t enough,” said Livesey.

Originally conceived as a one-off passion project, the case combines a bamboo exterior with powder-coated flightcase hardware and an automatic lift mechanism that reveals the bar. Inside are a fridge, ice bucket, glasses and a selection of drinks, with the interior finished in sparkling Shard material and stainless-steel trim.

After the first case was sold, Bad Weather asked Case Connection to produce another. Livesey and Gaylard subsequently worked together on the second build, with MGG contributing towards its contents. The resulting case was tweaked in its detailing to make it an original rather than simply a replica of the first.

The Industry SOS Foundation, run by DWR Distribution, supports members of the South African entertainment and live events industry facing hardship.
