Novatech enhances L-Acoustics inventory with L Series
Novatech Creative Event Technology has added eight L-Acoustics L2 and four L2D to its rental inventory, giving the company what it describes as Australia’s largest L Series rental stock. The investment coincides with Novatech’s 25th year in business and 21st as an L-Acoustics certified partner.
The Adelaide-based company’s relationship with L-Acoustics dates back to 2005, when it purchased a Kudo system. It then subsequently added K2 in 2014, Syva from 2017, L-ISA in 2018 for a project with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, plus K1 in 2025, with the L Series representing its latest and largest investment in the brand.
“This wasn’t just a project for a client,” said Leko, Novatech’s managing director. “We’ve been buying L-Acoustics systems for our own stock for 20 years because we use what we sell and L2 was the clearest next step for us as much as it was for the AEC.”
The move follows the company’s installation of an L2 system at Adelaide Entertainment Centre (AEC) Theatre earlier this year. The AEC Theatre previously operated with a V-DOSC system installed during a 2010 redevelopment and, following a competitive tender to replace the system, Novatech won the contract with a design based around L2.
The new system was designed to cover the theatre’s different configurations without changing array geometry. The main system comprises two L2 and one L2D per side, with four KS28 per side flown in a cardioid configuration. An additional 12 floor-deployed KS28 can be added for high-SPL events, while six X8 provide front-fill.
“The brief was to match the flexibility of the old system without re-rigging between formats and L2 let us do that with far more headroom in reserve,” noted Matthew Ruggiero, Novatech’s technical project manager “With L-Acoustics Network Manager, we can adjust coverage on the fly instead of flying the array in to re-pin it, which matters in a room that changes configuration as often as this one does.”
The system uses P1 processing, LA7.16 amplified controllers and a fibre-based Milan-AVB network, with Cat5 AVB and analogue redundancy paths. Novatech also calibrated the system in its different positions using the M1 measurement and optimisation workflow.
