NDI and NVIDIA have announced they are developing AI-powered broadcast workflows designed to make real-time multilingual content production more scalable. According to both companies, early testing indicates that the approach can significantly reduce the amount of video infrastructure required.

The initiative combines NDI-native connectivity with NVIDIA AI for Media technologies, including the NVIDIA LipSync NIM microservice, to enable broadcasters to create and distribute localised versions of live content from a common media stream. Applications span live events, breaking news, sports, entertainment and corporate communications.

Traditionally, multilingual distribution has required broadcasters to create, transport and distribute separate versions of the same content for each language. This can increase production requirements, bandwidth consumption and infrastructure costs, particularly when localisation needs to happen in real time.

NDI and NVIDIA’s approach instead allows multiple language experiences to be generated from a shared source workflow. During internal testing involving 10 languages, the companies said the method achieved the same results while carrying eight times less video.

“Broadcasters have spent decades trading audience reach against distribution cost,” said Miguel Coutinho, head of NDI. “With NVIDIA AI for Media, we are enabling a fundamentally different model, where a single media workflow can support multiple language experiences. This has the potential to significantly reduce bandwidth and distribution costs while making multilingual content accessible to far larger audiences."

The workflows support real-time translation, lip-synced dubbing and regional language adaptation, with potential applications including localised advertising. The companies say the technology is designed to integrate with existing broadcast and media production environments, allowing organisations to introduce AI-powered localisation without rebuilding their operations.

“AI is transforming the way content is created, adapted and delivered,” said Lewis Smithingham, principal product manager, media and entertainment at NVIDIA. “The goal is to provide media organisations with the ability to increase viewer engagement by delivering content in their language and with advertising that makes sense for who and where they are. It’s a solution designed to create maximum value while reducing the cost and complexity of multilingual content delivery.”

The system is currently being tested with selected partners across live production and enterprise communications. NDI will also offer proof-of-concept demonstrations at IBC 2026 in Amsterdam, with demonstrations available by advance appointment.
