Planetcast acquires BroadStream
Planetcast has acquired BroadStream Solutions, adding integrated playout, captioning, subtitling and broadcast workflow technology to its global media services and distribution offering.
The acquisition will see BroadStream form the foundation of a newly established products division within Planetcast. The division will combine the former’s software portfolio with the latter’s media services and infrastructure, targeting linear, streaming and hybrid workflows.
BroadStream’s OASYS Integrated Playout platform will form a key part of the new division, alongside solutions for time delay, captioning, subtitling and accessibility workflows. According to Planetcast, the combination is intended to allow broadcasters and content owners to connect capabilities across content preparation, playout, localisation, streaming and distribution.
“BroadStream is a natural fit for Planetcast as we expand our product capabilities alongside our global services business,” said Sanjay Bhatt, CEO, Planetcast. “This acquisition brings together BroadStream’s proven broadcast products with Planetcast’s services and global infrastructure to support customers across more of the content lifecycle. The combination creates new opportunities to connect these capabilities across content preparation, playout, localisation, streaming and distribution, while giving customers the flexibility to build solutions around their specific operations and growth plans.”
BroadStream CEO David Bowes will lead the new products division, overseeing product strategy, development and go-to-market activities. The company says the move will also support existing customers and partners during the transition.
“BroadStream has always focused on where our customers want to go next and how we can help them get there,” said David Bowes, CEO, BroadStream. “Joining Planetcast gives us a much broader portfolio, greater global reach and access to new resources. Together, we can build on the relationships and solutions we’ve established with our customers, introduce additional capabilities as their needs evolve and bring that same approach to new customers and markets around the world.”
For Planetcast, the acquisition expands its offering beyond media services and distribution infrastructure into a broader portfolio of broadcast software products. The company added that the products division will support further product development and wider global availability of its media technology portfolio.
