The editing suite is moving beyond the workstation as Avid and Google Cloud expand their strategic partnership with a browser-based version of Avid Media Composer and new AI-driven workflows designed to give editors greater flexibility over where and how they work.

The companies will showcase the developments at IBC2026 in Amsterdam, with the expanded partnership integrating Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery into Avid’s post-production environment alongside Avid’s own media-specific AI capabilities.

The browser-based Media Composer runs within Google Chrome, allowing editors to work with professional timelines through Avid Content Core. Avid’s Ready to Edit capabilities add agentic workflows, enabling users to issue natural-language prompts to synchronise media, transcribe and align dialogue, and organise project bins.

An embedded Gemini panel also allows editors to generate B-roll, locate stock footage and automate tasks such as tagging, logging and translation using their existing Gemini accounts.

The wider Content Core platform uses Google Cloud technologies to analyse and enrich media as it is imported, generating transcripts and semantic descriptions. Editors can then use natural-language queries to locate specific content, reducing the need for manual logging and archive searches.

Avid says the developments reflect how professional editors are already using AI. Its research found that 79% of surveyed editors use AI in their workflows, with speech-to-text and transcription the most common applications at 60%. Meanwhile, 87% said AI is most valuable when it helps them achieve their creative intentions more efficiently, while 76% saw its role as freeing up more time for storytelling.

"Customers are asking for intelligent tools that plug seamlessly into existing workflows and scale with their creativity," said Wellford Dillard, chief executive officer of Avid. "Our expanded partnership with Google Cloud strengthens our ability to deliver secure, AI-driven innovation while keeping Avid open, interoperable, and adaptable. By bringing Media Composer to the browser and integrating Gemini Enterprise into Content Core, we are helping creative teams bypass administrative friction and focus on storytelling."

The partnership also introduces Content Core Insights, connecting production planning, editing and broadcast data through Gemini Enterprise and BigQuery. Avid says the approach can provide organisations with visibility into areas including staffing, resource use, production costs and content performance.

Avid Content Core Site Engine provides a hybrid-cloud deployment model, linking customer Google Cloud environments to Content Core while keeping compute and high-resolution assets within the customer’s own cloud environment.
