Magewell and Zixi join forces on IP video
Magewell and Zixi have expanded their collaboration to deliver an end-to-end live video contribution workflow over public and hybrid IP networks.
The workflow pairs Magewell’s Ultra Encode encoders and Pro Convert IP decoders with the Zixi Software Platform, with the aim of providing a cost-effective alternative to dedicated circuits and satellite for live video transport.
The Ultra Encode Plus and Ultra Encode AIO models encode HDMI and SDI sources in H.264 or HEVC and support native streaming via the Zixi Protocol. The transport technology is designed to compensate for packet loss, jitter and latency across unmanaged or congested networks.
At the management layer, Zixi ZEN Master provides centralised provisioning, monitoring, telemetry and alerting for contribution endpoints. On the receiving side, Pro Convert IP decoders convert incoming Zixi streams back to SDI or HDMI for monitoring, production and playout. The workflow can scale from individual flypacks to larger deployments, with operators managing encoding, transport and decoding through a single control plane.
An established US streaming service is among the first to deploy the combined solution, using the combined technology to distribute live production feeds from cloud-hosted Zixi Broadcasters to control rooms. Magewell decoders convert the streams to SDI or HDMI, while operators use ZEN Master to switch feeds to the required screens.
“Reliability is everything in live contribution and our customers want that reliability without the cost and complexity of legacy transport,” said Jonathan Low, VP channel sales and partnerships at Zixi.
Nick Ma, CEO and CTO, Magewell, added: “Native Zixi support across our Ultra Encode encoders and Pro Convert decoders lets customers build flexible, multiprotocol workflows on both ends of the network.”
