DWR brings network training to Cape Town

The growing importance of reliable network infrastructure in live event technology was the focus of a recent training course presented by Kyle Freemantle at DWR Distribution's Cape Town branch. Covering the principles behind designing and commissioning reliable networks, the session explored IP addressing, subnet masks, gateways, network topology and redundancy, helping attendees understand both how networks should be configured and why different protocols are required.

“The session covered the key principles of designing and commissioning reliable networks,” said Freemantle. “Most importantly, it highlighted the critical role that robust network infrastructure plays as the backbone of modern event technology.”

Johnny Scholtz, branch manager at DWR Distribution Cape Town, highlighted the value of developing a deeper understanding of networking rather than relying on established working practices. “So much of what we do today relies on networking, yet people don’t always understand why they need to configure certain protocols or how everything fits together,” he explained. “We often work on muscle memory, so it was great to see those lightbulb moments when things started to make sense.”

Scholtz added that there continues to be a strong appetite for training in Cape Town, with the latest session attracting local attendees as well as a participant from Namibia's D&B Audio.
