Panasonic brings global shutter sensors to PTZ cameras

Capturing fast-moving subjects without the distortion associated with rolling shutters is the key development behind Panasonic’s AW-UE200 and AW-UER200, a series of 4K PTZ cameras aimed at sports, live eventsand studio production.

The AW-UE200 and AW-UER200 are, according to manufacturer, the first PTZ cameras to incorporate global shutter MOS sensors, enabling fast-moving subjects to be captured without the distortion associated with rolling shutters. Both models combine the technology with high-speed pan and tilt operation and a 22x optical zoom, targeting sports, live events and studio production.

The UE200 offers pan acceleration of 1,800°/s for tracking fast-moving subjects, while variable zoom speeds range from approximately 0.5 seconds to 120 seconds from tele to wide. Both models also incorporate automatic tracking and framing directly within the camera. The AW-UER200 adds a roll mechanism with a –200° to +200° range, allowing the camera to produce vertical 9:16 or horizontal 16:9 video using the full sensor. One-touch horizontal levelling is intended to simplify installation on angled ceilings and other difficult mounting positions, while an 80° wide-angle lens provides coverage where installation space is restricted.

Compatibility with LED walls and reduced flicker from stage lighting are also highlighted, while support for recording at up to 180fps is planned through a future firmware update. Both AW-UE210 and AW-UER210 variants add SMPTE ST 2110 and Dante connectivity as standard.

Panasonic is also extending its production workflow tools with new KAIROS control panels and updates for Image Adjust Pro. The AT-KP340 and AT-KP330 provide 12 buses with 40 and 30 crosspoint buttons respectively, alongside large touch panels on each bus row for access to snapshots, macros and frequentlyused functions.

Image Adjust Pro is gaining automatic colour matching, allowing colours from multiple cameras to be aligned with a reference camera while reducing manual adjustment of gamma, matrix and colour correction settings. An upcoming Q4 update also introduces enhanced virtual remote-control panels and is planned to support the AW-UE200 and AW-UER200.

New colour adjustment functions are also coming to the AK-UCX100 studio camera and AK-UBX100 multi-purpose camera. Color Temp. Blend uses colour-temperature data from LED walls and stage lighting to generate an appropriate white balance, while Target Color Correction provides individual hue and saturation adjustment for up to three selected colours. Chroma Suppression is designed to control colour shift and saturation when shooting highly saturated LED displays.
