ARRI brings support to ALEXA 35

ARRI has announced that SMPTE ST 2110 support can now be used with the ALEXA 35 Live Multicam System. The functionality is available through Software Update Package (SUP) 1.5.0 for the Live Production System LPS-1 and requires a software licence.

The implementation supports independent routing and control of uncompressed video, multichannel audio and time-sensitive metadata over a 25GbE full-duplex connection. It can transport two uncompressed UHD camera feeds alongside multiple HD or UHD return video and return aux channels. Multiple HD streams are also supported for high-frame-rate, slow-motion acquisition over IP.

The LPS-1 supports SMPTE ST 2022-7 redundancy, using two third-party SFP28 25GbE fibre-optic transceiver modules installed at the rear of the unit. This provides two active network paths with automatic failover. ARRI lists recommended transceiver modules in the LPS-1 SUP 1.5.0 user manual.

The ST 2110 implementation supports integration with broadcast systems including Riedel Communications infrastructure and SimplyLive production environments. AMWA NMOS support covers IS-04, IS-05, IS-08, IS-09, BCP-003-01 and BCP-003-03, providing device discovery and registration, connection management, audio channel mapping, system parameters, secure communication and authorisation. Precision Time Protocol (PTP) provides synchronisation across the network.

The implementation supports SMPTE ST 2110-10 for system timing and synchronisation, ST 2110-20 for uncompressed active video transport, ST 2110-21 for traffic shaping and packet timing, ST 2110-30 for PCM audio transport and ST 2110-40 for ancillary data including captions, VITC and timecode. SMPTE ST 2022-7 provides protection switching.
