Austrian Audio brings CKR12 capsule to OC616
The dual CKR12 capsule from Austrian Audio’s flagship OC818 has found its way into the new OC616, giving project studios access to the same five polar patterns in a more streamlined large-diaphragm condenser microphone. Hand-built in Vienna, the edge-terminated CKR12 is derived from the original CK12 brass capsule and incorporates a ceramic isolator design. Austrian Audio’s Open Acoustic Technology is intended to minimise internal reflections and acoustic interference before they reach the capsule.
The OC616 offers omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid and figure-of-eight patterns, allowing it to handle applications ranging from vocals and acoustic instruments to drum overheads, guitar amplifiers and Mid/Side stereo recording setups. Three switchable high-pass filters and two pads offering -10dB and -20dB attenuation provide additional control, while maximum SPL handling of 157dB and a dynamic range of 134dB accommodate demanding sources.
Unlike the smoother voicing of the OC818 and OC18, the OC616 follows the OC16 with a clearer, more direct tonal character. The microphone is aimed at musicians and producers seeking multi-pattern flexibility without the more extensive functionality of the flagship model. The OC616 Studio Set includes an OCS6 elastic suspension mount, OCH8 microphone clamp and MSC616 carrying case.
