Alcons installs first M-series system in China
Alcons Audio has supplied the first M-series loudspeaker installation in mainland China for an immersive recording studio at the Gaoping Future Music Technology Industrial Park in Gaoping City. The 5.2.4 studio was designed to provide monitoring facilities for leading national arts ensembles, with a focus on accurate reproduction and dynamic range for demanding recording applications.
Designed by Bian Liunian of the Oriental Song and Dance Troupe, the system was supplied by EAD and installed and tuned by sound engineer Niu Wenjie of Beijing Da Niu Audio Company. The project team initially considered an active-monitor solution before comparing alternatives through listening sessions covering different musical genres.
The Alcons configuration was selected following evaluations of sound quality and overall system costs, with its centrally amplified, multichannel architecture also offering flexibility during the studio's acoustic construction.
The installation comprises five bi-amplified MR10 pro-ribbon reference monitors for the main channels, two MB10 low-frequency extension systems and four CRMSC-SRIW/120 in-wall loudspeakers. Two Director6 amplified loudspeaker controllers provide system processing and amplification, with KLOTZ cabling completing the signal infrastructure.
The production chain combines a Stagetec digital mixing system with the Dutch manufacturer's loudspeakers to provide a 5.1 surround production environment, with additional channels supporting the immersive monitoring configuration.
The use of passive loudspeakers with centrally located amplification allowed the design team to integrate the monitors into the sound-isolated room without amplifier electronics housed within each loudspeaker.
“I thought the VR5 was already performing at a very high level,” noted Li Liang, chief engineer of the project. “After listening to the MR5 and MR10, I realised it was not the limit of what Alcons could do. Perhaps there is no upper limit.”
The Gaoping Future Music Technology Industrial Park occupies approximately 4.3 hectares within the city's Mishan Industrial Park. Its facilities include digital research and development, exhibition, experience and intelligent manufacturing centres, alongside businesses operating across musical instruments, lighting, audio equipment and stage design.
According to the team, the client has responded positively to the monitoring system and is considering Alcons for future projects.
