PSR and Meyer Sound demonstrate their international class
Promedia Sejahtera Raya (PSR) recently supported the Meyer Sound Education certified programme with a two-day System Design and Optimisation seminar in the newly built ballroom within Jakarta’s Plaza Senayan Mall.
Two years have passed since Meyer Sound founders John and Helen Meyer, together with COO John McMahon, were made guests of honour in Jakarta’s XXI Ballroom within Djakarta Theatre to mark the official launch of PSR’s exclusive distribution partnership the Californian brand. Co-founded by industry veteran Yosua Yan Heriyanto and Cinema XXI owner Benny Suherman, PSR has been actively developing Meyer Sound’s credentials in the archipelago.
Flying in from the US for the training event, Meyer Sound’s experts welcomed 120 live sound and studio engineers, acousticians, systems integrators, and rental companies over the two-day occassion. Day one’s system optimisation schedule covered single speaker, array and subwoofer measurements. Day two’s system design introduced MAPP 3D system prediction software for multiple loudspeakers, arrays and measurement microphones. To better exemplify the technology, some recent case studies were highlighted including the recently installed ballroom at Plaza Senayan that was designed by Meyer Sound’s director of system optimisation, Bob McCarthy.
PSR’s Benny Suherman confirmed his commitment to further promote the pro audio industry in Indonesia by providing world class education. “Modern tools like prediction software and affordable analysers make systems design more accessible than ever, but true mastery requires an understanding of the science behind the tools,” explained the Cinema XXI co-founder. “Without it, troubleshooting and adapting to real-world challenges becomes guesswork.”
Through a structured approach grounded in acoustic principles, the course trained attendees to make informed design decisions, validate them with measurement and avoid missteps caused by misunderstood data. Participants were encouraged to develop their critical listening skills to ensure they hear what they measure. Ultimately, over the two days, the attendees gained sufficient confidence to create their own systems designs.
Following the event, McCarthy commented: “Because Promedia has the best facilities in the region for hosting regular seminars and training, many engineers travelled here from across Indonesia. The passion and support of Benny Suherman to the industry is amazing and the collaboration with Yosua Yan on their Promedia YouTube channel is a blessing for the industry in Indonesia. Two days were possibly not enough, but I was very impressed with the enthusiasm of the participants who came to learn and upgrade their skills.
Assisting McCarthy, Meyer Sound’s APAC senior sales director, Owen Ironside, flew into Jakarta from Australia: “Meyer Sound’s long history of educating the professional audio community is based upon comprehensive and science-based training. The programme is designed to deliver content tailored to all disciplines and experience levels from aspiring students, to touring sound engineers or audio consultants. We present tools and techniques to help you attain the best possible performance from your sound system.”
At the conclusion, many engineers requested further events to be staged for educating the pro audio market. “Meyer Sound has also encouraged us to stage an international schedule event in future,” added PSR’s Yosua Heriyanto. “Our loyal YouTube channel subscribers and social media followers engage with our Berani [Belajar Audio Disini] education programme, which has hosted education workshops in Bali, Surabaya, Semarang and other cities. We will naturally be developing on this theme.”
